Bowie Knives

The Bowie Knife was not born our of a single design but was instead improvements on a series of Knives by Jim Bowie. As Bowie improved upon the knife it started to become used, it became popular with many knife carriers.

A fight between Bowie and several other men that became known as the Sandbar Fight, is the one event that made the first Bowie knife popular. Even thought Bowie was near death, he was able to win the fight with a version of his Bowie knife that had been made specifically for him.

The most common Bowie knife people know have at least a six inch blade with reaching as high 12 inches. Bowie knives have a distinctive handle which makes gripping and using the knife much easier.

Even the military has fashioned some of their knives and blended it a survival knife to give their user a more formidable knife when the time to use one arises.
